INSPIRATION

Mediterranean

The Mediterranean interior style brings the relaxed atmosphere of Southern Europe into the home. Natural materials, soft colours, sun-warmed tones and a calm interior together create a space that feels warm, welcoming and timeless. It is a style centred around simplicity, comfort and enjoying everyday life.

COLOURS

Colour Palettes for a Mediterranean Interior

Colour brings warmth, light and a connection with nature to a Mediterranean interior. With these three colour palettes, you can create a different atmosphere each time: from fresh and coastal to warm and rustic or soft and South of France-inspired, while maintaining a sense of calm and balance.

PALETTE 1

Coastal Feeling by the Mediterranean Sea

Snow White – Santorini Blue – Casper Blue – Cyprus White

Snow White and Cyprus White together create a light, sun-filled base reminiscent of whitewashed walls along the Mediterranean coast. Santorini Blue brings the character of sea and sky indoors, while Casper Blue softens the contrast. This keeps the palette fresh and Mediterranean without feeling cool or harsh.

PALETTE 2

Warm Tuscan Charm

Namibian Sand – Terra Cotta Pink – Venetian Green – Old White

Namibian Sand creates a calm base reminiscent of sun-warmed natural stone. Terra Cotta Pink brings warmth and character, while Venetian Green evokes cypress trees, olive trees and Mediterranean gardens. Old White keeps the overall look light and prevents the palette from feeling too heavy.

PALETTE 3

Provence at Home

Old White – Olive – Terra Cotta Pink – Mystery Grey

Old White creates a soft, limewashed backdrop that fits perfectly with the Mediterranean atmosphere. Olive Green adds natural depth and evokes olive groves and herb fields. Terra Cotta Pink brings a warm glow, while Mystery Grey adds calm and keeps the palette refined and timeless.

HOME ACCESSORIES

Home Accessories for Mediterranean Living

Mediterranean interiors gain atmosphere through accessories that feel natural, handcrafted and gently timeworn. Choose a few larger objects rather than many small decorations. Think ceramic vases, handmade bowls, woven baskets, artworks, silk flowers and LED candles. Subtly repeat colours from your chosen palette in the accessories to create calm and cohesion. By combining natural materials with soft shapes, the interior remains relaxed and inviting.

Brenda’s Tip

“Create a Mediterranean still life on a large wooden tray or a natural table surface. Combine three elements at different heights, for example a ceramic vase, a bowl of lemons and a group of LED candles. Repeat one colour from your interior, such as Santorini Blue or Olive Green. This creates cohesion without everything having to match exactly. Also take another look at the accessories you already own. An old vase, wooden bowl or small piece of furniture can often be given a completely new look with a coat of Decoration Paint. This way, you add character without buying new items and keep the Mediterranean atmosphere personal and sustainable.”

Bring Mediterranean Style into Your Home

Natural materials form the foundation of a Mediterranean interior. This style works beautifully with a natural stone-look floor, such as the COREtec tile floor shown in the inspiration image. Its subtle texture and muted tones immediately evoke the atmosphere of a Southern European home. On the walls, limewashed paint effects and colours such as Old White, Namibian Sand and Cyprus White work particularly well.
Choose linen curtains with a wave pleat to softly filter the light. Combine weathered wood, ceramics, wool, rattan and natural fabrics for extra warmth. During the day, allow natural light to flow freely through the space. In the evening, wall lights, table lamps and LED candles create a warm and relaxed atmosphere. The combination of hard stone textures and soft fabrics also improves comfort and acoustics.
