The Artwork

This original artwork by Nigel Bakker measures 64 cm high x 184 cm wide. Its elongated horizontal format enhances the movement within the work and allows the flowing lines to continue across its entire width. This sentence captures the essence of the artwork. The composition appears to be in constant motion, yet it never feels restless. The waves bend, turn and flow into one another, while the turquoise core remains present as a quiet centre within the surrounding dynamism.Turquoise, azure blue, grey-green and rust-brown tones alternate across the surface. The relief structure and natural oxidation create a vivid appearance that changes under different lighting conditions. During the day, the fresh blue-green nuances become more prominent, while warmer evening light reveals the darker and rust-coloured undertones.

The Artist

Nigel Bakker is the Dutch artist behind NB 3D Art. In his work, he brings together craftsmanship, material research, technique and aesthetics. His artworks are made by hand and are distinguished by their tactile depth, layering and natural variations in colour.Bakker does not work only on the surface but constructs his artworks through texture. He uses the properties of copper and iron as active elements within the creative process. By patinating the metals, colours emerge that have not simply been painted on but have genuinely developed in and on the material.As a result, every work is unique. The final colour nuances, oxidation patterns and textures can never be reproduced exactly. It is precisely this interaction between control and natural change that gives his work its distinctive character.Sustainability also plays an important role. Wherever possible, Bakker works with reused materials and explores how existing resources can be given a new artistic meaning.

The Technique

The technique used for Eye of Change is a form of copper and iron patination.The flowing texture was carved by hand into the wooden base. A mixture of copper and iron was then applied to the surface. These metals were subsequently patinated, creating the characteristic colour palette.The copper develops the turquoise, azure blue and occasional greenish tones. The warmer brown and rust-coloured nuances are created by the iron.The frame is also an integral part of the overall composition. No copper was used in the frame. It therefore develops only the rust-brown colour of the iron, forming a robust contrast with the blue-green patina of the artwork.

Interior Advice by Decoration

With its dimensions of 64 x 184 cm, Eye of Change is particularly suitable for a long wall. It comes beautifully into its own above a sofa, long sideboard, dining table, low cabinet or in a spacious entrance hall.The artwork needs sufficient breathing space. Avoid placing a large collection of accessories directly beside it. Allow the horizontal movement to remain visible and give the work room to visually widen the wall.

Scenario 1 – Light and Spacious

Combine the artwork with a wall in Old White or Cyprus White. The light background allows the turquoise and azure blue tones to stand out clearly and enhances the width of the artwork.Use light wood structures, linen curtains and a few calm ceramic objects.
