White two-pleat gathering tape – 45 mm wide

      Product description

This white gathering tape is 45 mm wide and suitable for creating a neat two-pleat heading in sheer curtains and drapes. Drawcords are woven into the tape, allowing you to bring the curtain fabric to the required width after sewing. Pulling the cords evenly forms the fabric into regularly spaced groups of two pleats. Carefully distribute these groups across the complete curtain width to achieve a calm and balanced result. The two-pleat finish gives sheer curtains a neat appearance and creates a fuller, more structured look in drapes. The tape is sewn to the reverse of the curtain fabric along the upper edge. After gathering, tie the cords securely and conceal the remaining ends behind the curtain. It is best not to cut the cords too short, so that the curtain width can still be adjusted later. The gathering tape can be ordered in your required length; the stated price is per metre.

      Sewing instructions

First determine the required finished height and width of the curtain. Calculate how much curtain fabric and gathering tape you need, allowing for the side hems, bottom hem and a small processing margin. The amount of fabric required depends on the desired fullness of the curtain.

Pin or tack the gathering tape horizontally to the reverse of the curtain fabric along the upper edge. Check that the tape is positioned at the same height across the complete width. Make sure the drawcords remain accessible at both ends and do not stitch through them.

Sew the tape securely in place using a needle and thread suitable for the selected curtain fabric. For lightweight or transparent sheer curtains, first test the stitching on a leftover piece. This allows you to check that the needle, stitch length and thread tension will not damage the fabric.

Tie the drawcords securely at one end and then pull them gently and evenly from the other end. Gather the curtain to the required width and distribute the groups of two pleats evenly across the complete length.

After distributing the pleats, tie the cords securely. Roll up the remaining ends and conceal them neatly behind the curtain. Only cut them if you are certain that the curtain width will not need to be adjusted later.
