This white gathering tape is 70 mm wide and provides a broad base for a neat curtain heading. The tape is sewn to the reverse of the curtain fabric along the upper edge. You then pull the woven-in cords evenly until the curtain reaches the required width. Carefully distributing the resulting gathers across the complete width creates a full and balanced curtain appearance. The wide tape gives the top of the curtain a clearly defined and structured finish. This makes it suitable for various curtain projects requiring evenly distributed gathers. Before sewing, always check that the gathering tape is suitable for the weight, texture and intended appearance of the selected curtain fabric. The amount of fabric required depends on the original fabric width and the desired fullness of the curtain. As no fixed fullness ratio has been specified, it is advisable to make a test piece first. Sewing instructions

First determine the required finished height and width of the curtain. Calculate how much curtain fabric and gathering tape you need. Allow for the side hems, bottom hem, top finish and a small processing margin. Pin or tack the gathering tape horizontally to the reverse of the curtain fabric along the upper edge. Check that the tape is positioned at the same height across the complete width and lies flat against the fabric. Make sure the drawcords remain accessible at both ends and do not stitch through them. Sew the tape securely in place using a needle and thread suitable for the selected curtain fabric. For lightweight, smooth or delicate fabrics, first test the stitching on a leftover piece. This allows you to check whether the needle, stitch length and thread tension are suitable. Tie the drawcords securely at one end. Then pull the cords gently and evenly from the other end. Make sure all the cords are pulled by approximately the same amount so that the top of the curtain does not become uneven. Bring the curtain to the required width and distribute the gathers evenly across the complete length. Tie the cords securely afterwards. Roll up the remaining ends and conceal them neatly behind the curtain. It is best not to cut the cords short, so that the width can still be adjusted later.
