In het studio of Rafaël Gorsen
Some artists leave behind more than just their work. They also leave a way of seeing—a world that remains tangible in everything they created. This is certainly true for Rafaël Gorsen, an artist who was connected to Art Gallery from the very beginning and who left a lasting impression.
With thanks to his wife, Mrs. Gorsen, we were given the special opportunity not only to continue showing his work, but also to share part of his story. She allowed us to capture his studio and offer a glimpse into the place where so much of his art came to life. A meaningful gesture that allows us to bring Rafaël closer—not only as an artist, but also as a person.
His studio was a space full of character. A place where canvases, sketches, paints, and materials still speak of his way of working and thinking. Everything reflects his presence. That is exactly what makes this video so special: it is not a distant portrait, but a personal encounter with the world of Rafaël Gorsen.
For Brenda Baart of Art Gallery, this place holds a special meaning. In the years she came to know Rafaël, many conversations unfolded about art, craftsmanship, imagination, and life. His studio always remained a place that moved and inspired her. That feeling is also reflected in this cinematic glimpse behind the scenes.
With this video, we aim to continue sharing Rafaël’s story in a sincere and thoughtful way. Not only through the artworks he left behind, but also through the environment in which his work was created. In this way, a more complete portrait emerges of an artist who meant a great deal to Art Gallery and to everyone who is touched by his work.
