About the artwork

With its generous dimensions of 150 x 210 cm, Repos has an impressive yet restrained presence. The two panels form one fluid composition of elongated vertical bands in off-white, sand, cool greys and deep, almost inky accents. Paint is applied both thinly and densely, sometimes transparent, sometimes intense. This creates a subtle rhythm and variation across the surface. The darker accents near the base ground the work, while lighter zones lift it upward. What makes Repos distinctive is the balance between movement and stillness. The vertical lines suggest flow, yet the soft palette brings serenity. The piece feels like abstract rainfall, a veil of light, a suspended moment. About the artist – Maryse Quisquater

Maryse Quisquater began her career as a high-end window dresser for exclusive boutiques in Belgium. She designed background walls and visual settings that enhanced atmosphere and identity. Encouraged by a client, she translated her techniques onto canvas. This transition led to a recognisable artistic signature: strong linear compositions, balanced colour choices and the use of high-quality paints to create unique textures. Her background in visual composition ensures that her artworks are not only aesthetically refined but spatially functional. They structure a wall without overwhelming it.

Repos requires an environment that respects its quiet strength.  At 150 x 210 cm, it needs a generous wall, yet it feels lighter than its dimensions suggest. The vertical movement makes it especially suitable for rooms with height: a living space with a mezzanine, a tall entrance hall or an open office environment.  Lighting is key. Two or three directional spotlights from above will highlight the texture and reinforce the vertical rhythm.  This is not a loud statement. It is a conscious choice for serenity.
