    Force – Maryse Quisquater
    Size: 150 x 210 cm (diptych)

    About the artwork

With its impressive dimensions of 150 x 210 cm, Force is not background art — it defines the room. Unlike the more vertical rhythm often seen in Maryse’s work, this composition revolves around horizon, balance and linear strength.

The upper and lower zones consist of layered whites, off-tones, sand and muted taupe. Paint is visibly applied, scraped and rebuilt, creating subtle depth and transparency. The surface feels alive, yet controlled.

The strong rust-red band running across both panels forms the core of the piece. It connects the two canvases and brings both tension and stability. The tone is warm and earthy rather than loud — powerful without dominating.

Force evokes a landscape without depicting one. An abstract horizon that offers both grounding and direction.

About the artist – Maryse Quisquater

    Maryse Quisquater

Maryse Quisquater began her career as a high-end window dresser for exclusive boutiques in Belgium. She created background installations and visual settings designed to enhance atmosphere and brand identity.

Encouraged by one of her clients, she transferred these techniques onto canvas. What began as an experiment evolved into a strong artistic signature. Her work is characterised by balanced colour palettes, the use of high-quality paints and the creation of unique textures through layering and removal.

Her background in visual presentation is reflected in how her artworks structure a space. She thinks not only in composition, but in experience.

    Interior advice – by Brenda

This is a piece for those who dare to choose.

At 150 x 210 cm, Force has architectural proportions. It works beautifully above a long sofa, a generous dining table or in a professional setting such as a reception area or boardroom.

    Scenario 1 – Calm minimalism
Pair it with a warm white or soft greige wall. Keep furniture low and clean-lined. The horizontal band enhances the width of the space and creates visual serenity.

    Scenario 2 – Warm modern
Use natural materials such as oak, wool and leather. Subtly echo the rust tone in a single accessory — perhaps a ceramic piece or an art book. More is unnecessary.

Scenario 3 – Professional and powerful
In an office environment, this work conveys authority without feeling cold. Combine it with steel, natural stone or a concrete-look floor. The warm central band prevents the setting from becoming too austere.

Lighting is essential. A horizontal wall washer or multiple directional spotlights will ensure the layered texture remains visible. Without proper lighting, the depth is diminished.

This is not art to fill a wall. It is art that defines it.
