Folie is a powerful diptych in which vertical structures, weathered layers and deep rust accents merge into a monumental composition. A work that combines calm, rhythm and tension, adding architectural depth to a space.

      Folie – Maryse Quisquater
      Size: 120 x 170 cm (diptych)

      About the artwork

This diptych (120 x 170 cm) has a strong vertical dynamic. The two panels form one unified composition, yet each carries its own nuance in texture and layering. The base consists of tones such as off-white, sand, muted taupe and subtle black.

The deep rust-brown bands on the outer edges frame the artwork, giving it weight and stability. In the centre, movement emerges: scraped paint, translucent layers and subtle contrasts create an almost architectural depth.

The texture is tangible. Paint has been layered, removed and reapplied, resulting in a weathered, almost industrial character. The work evokes aged walls, steel constructions or urban façades — without becoming figurative.

Folie is abstract, yet highly spatial. It breathes structure.

About the artist – Maryse Quisquater

      Maryse Quisquater

Maryse Quisquater began her career as a high-end window dresser for renowned boutiques in Belgium. She created background installations and decorative settings designed to strengthen atmosphere and brand identity.

Encouraged by one of her clients, she translated these techniques onto canvas. What began as an experiment evolved into a distinctive artistic signature. Her abstract works are characterised by strong vertical compositions, carefully balanced colour palettes and the use of high-quality paints to achieve unique textures.

Her background in visual merchandising is reflected in her sense of impact, balance and spatial awareness. Each work is meant to function within an interior — aesthetically and energetically.

      Interior advice – by Brenda

A diptych of this size requires vision.

With its 120 x 170 cm dimensions, Folie has an almost wall-filling presence. It performs best on a generous wall where it can breathe. Think of a living room with a wide sofa, a tall entrance hall or an office space where impact is desired.

Scenario 1 – Minimal and calm
Combine it with a matte wall in soft greige or warm white. Choose natural materials such as linen, wool and wood. The artwork will add depth without overwhelming the space.

Scenario 2 – Industrial and bold
Place it against a light grey or concrete-look wall. Black steel, leather and coarse textures will reinforce the raw character. The rust accents introduce warmth into the robust setting.

Scenario 3 – Warm and layered
Subtly repeat the rust tone in accessories such as ceramics, a throw or an art book. Limit this to a few accents — too much repetition diminishes the tension.

Lighting is crucial. Due to the layered paint, this diptych works best with directional spotlights or a soft wall washer. Shadow enhances the texture and brings the structure to life.

This is not decorative art. It is a spatial intervention.

      FAQ

      1. Is Folie a unique artwork?

Yes. This diptych is an original, one-of-a-kind artwork by Maryse Quisquater.

      2. How is a diptych delivered?

Delivery or collection is arranged personally. Due to its size, we prefer personal handover or professional transport.

      3. Can the panels be hung separately?

The work is designed as a diptych and forms one composition. Hanging the panels separately is possible but significantly alters its spatial impact.

      4. Is this work suitable for a smaller space?

Because of its generous size, it requires sufficient wall space. In smaller interiors, it can feel dominant unless intentionally used as a bold statement.

      5. Can I view the artwork before purchasing?

Yes, viewing at Pot Interieur in Axel or at your home is possible via the available options.
