Espace is a serene, vertically composed artwork in which soft layers of white, grey and sand merge into a subtle yet powerful composition. A painting that does not fill space — it creates it.

      Espace – Maryse Quisquater
      Size: 150 x 100 cm

      About the artwork

With its elegant proportions of 150 x 100 cm, Espace has a refined vertical presence. The composition consists of elongated bands in off-white, cool grey, sand and deeper anthracite accents. Layers of paint are applied and partially revealed, creating fine ridges, transparency and depth. What stands out is the calmness. There is no dominant colour, no harsh interruption. Instead, a rhythmic interplay of light and darker vertical strokes evokes light filtering through architectural elements. At the lower section, subtle darker accents ground the composition, giving stability to the vertical movement. The painting feels like an abstract passage — a dialogue between light, shadow and texture. Espace is minimalist, yet never empty. It breathes silence.

About the artist – Maryse Quisquater

Maryse Quisquater began her career as a high-end window dresser for exclusive boutiques in Belgium. She created background installations and visual environments that strengthened atmosphere and identity. Encouraged by a client, she translated these techniques onto canvas. This led to a series of abstract works centred on texture, rhythm and colour balance. By using high-quality paints and building layered surfaces, she developed a recognisable artistic signature. Her background in spatial presentation is reflected in the way her artworks do more than decorate a wall — they shape the space around them.

      Interior advice – by Brenda

This is a work for those who appreciate quiet strength.

With its vertical format of 150 x 100 cm, Espace performs beautifully in rooms with height. Think of an entrance hall, a staircase wall or beside a tall cabinet. The vertical lines enhance the perception of height and create an elegant visual lift. Lighting is essential. Choose a subtle vertical light beam or two soft spots from above. The fine textures will then become visible, giving the work an almost architectural depth. This is not art that demands attention. It invites stillness.

      Scenario 1 – Ton-sur-ton interior
Combine it with a soft matte wall in warm white or light greige. Work with natural materials such as linen, wool and pale wood. The artwork adds depth without forcing contrast.

      Scenario 2 – Modern serenity
In a contemporary interior dominated by black and white, Espace introduces softness. The layered texture breaks sharp lines and adds humanity to the space.

Scenario 3 – Bedroom or retreat space
Thanks to its restrained palette, this piece is ideal for a bedroom or meditation corner. It enhances calm and balance without overstimulation.
