Nicole Henderiks

Nicole Henderiks creates art that invites the viewer to look anew at the landscape and the beauty of everyday things. From her Atelier NIMArt studio in Heikant, she translates the nature of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, still lifes and discovered details into refined drawings, paintings and graphic works. Born and raised in Kloosterzande, Nicole grew up surrounded by the open space, tranquillity and natural beauty of Zeeland. During walks through the polders, along creeks, through woodland or by the sea, she gathers impressions: a feather, a branch, a shell, a flower or the silhouette of an old barn. Whatever moves her is captured in photographs, sketches or collected materials, to be developed further later in her studio. Nicole works with ink, bistre ink, pastel and acrylic, and also creates graphic works such as etchings and woodcuts. Her paintings and drawings are predominantly figurative: recognisable landscapes, flowers, animals and still lifes acquire a quiet, personal expressive power through her attentive way of working. Subjects that might easily go unnoticed become special and meaningful in her art. After beginning her career in an accountancy firm, Nicole made the conscious decision to pursue life as an artist. She continued her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sint-Niklaas and opened her own Atelier NIMArt in 2008. Here, she creates her own work and shares her knowledge through drawing and painting courses and workshops for small groups. Her art carries within it the atmosphere of the Zeeland landscape: open, honest and observant. Nicole Henderiks shows that beauty does not have to be sought far away. Sometimes a work of art begins with a walk, a quiet corner of the home or a detail from nature that asks us to pause for a moment.
