Discover the 27 colours of Decoration Paint
A layered and vibrant painting where nature, light and movement merge into one.
Garden Dance slows down the space and invites you to look, breathe and rediscover.
Sylvia Frankena | 120 × 100 cm | Oil on canvas
In Garden Dance, you do not enter a garden — you become part of its rhythm.
The generous 120 × 100 cm format gives the painting a strong physical presence. Ferns unfold, leaves reach upward, irises capture the light as if touched by the sun. At the centre, a soft opening appears — a luminous area that creates space and calm within the lush growth.
Around this bright core, layers of green move in depth and nuance: forest greens, violet shadows, fresh spring tones. The brushwork is expressive yet intentional. Not botanically precise, but emotionally truthful.
There is no fixed horizon.
No boundaries.
Only movement.
This is not a decorative floral still life, but an environment that continues to reveal new details. The painting evolves with daylight, time and mood.
During the Covid period, Sylvia Frankena had the opportunity to paint in a garden along the river IJssel in Zwolle. A country estate surrounded by water, silence and seasonal change.
That period of stillness resonates throughout her work. Using oil paint and an expressive brushstroke, she transforms observation into moving memory. Irises, ferns and leaves become carriers of atmosphere rather than botanical studies.
Her paintings do not document nature — they translate experience.
Each glance reveals another layer.
A 120 × 100 cm canvas requires thoughtful placement and breathing space.
Scenario 1 – Depth & atmosphere
Place it against a wall in Sint Helena Blue (Decoration Paint). The deep blue intensifies the greens and enhances the luminous centre, creating an almost evening glow. Ideal for rooms with northern or eastern daylight.
Scenario 2 – Light & freshness
Choose Snow White as a wall colour. This makes the painting feel lighter and more summery. The greens appear fresher and more open. Perfect for bright living or dining spaces.
Scenario 3 – Warm natural balance
Combine with wood, linen, limewash textures and soft sand tones. Think in layers:
– No busy prints nearby
– Matte materials
– Warm lighting around 2700K
– Hang at eye level, allowing the centre to align naturally
Best suited for:
– A living room seeking calm
– A dining area where conversations slow down
– A spacious entrance hall
This is a painting that asks for attention.
And rewards it with serenity.
