The Artist

Rafaël Gorsen moved as an artist between figuration and abstraction, working in both painting and sculpture. In his figurative work, much revolved around the human being: spiritual, fallible, searching and full of contradictions. That same intensity remains present in his abstract works, although it is no longer translated into recognisable figures, but into colour, rhythm, tension and the effect of light.

In his more modern abstract paintings, Gorsen experimented with a form of drop flow painting, where control and spontaneity meet. His work reveals a sharp sensitivity to pattern formation, layering and colour contrast.
