    The Artwork

Abstract D228 is an original painting measuring 120 x 80 cm with a distinctly vertical composition. Against a dark, almost black background, a powerful mass of warm colour unfolds: vivid red, coral, orange and pink flow into one another, forming a lively, almost organic presence. At the centre, an intense blue accent emerges like a core running through the painting, adding extra depth, tension and rhythm. The splashes of paint, mist-like transitions and layered texture ensure that the surface continues to move, depending on how the light falls on it.

What makes this work so distinctive is the way it feels both immediate and mysterious at the same time. The field of colour is powerful and full of energy, yet still leaves room for interpretation. The work evokes associations with fire, bloom, eruption or a form breaking free from darkness. As a result, Abstract D228 has not only strong visual impact, but also real emotional presence.

    The Artist

Rafaël Gorsen moved as an artist between figuration and abstraction, working in both painting and sculpture. In his figurative work, much revolved around the human being: spiritual, fallible, searching and full of contradictions. That same intensity remains present in his abstract works, although it is no longer translated into recognisable figures, but into colour, rhythm, tension and the effect of light.

In his more modern abstract paintings, Gorsen experimented with a form of drop flow painting, where control and spontaneity meet. His work reveals a sharp sensitivity to pattern formation, layering and colour contrast. As a result, his paintings function not only as images, but also as spatial presences: they draw attention, shape atmosphere and give an interior character without becoming superficially decorative.

    Interior Advice by Decoration

Abstract D228 is a work for a space that can carry energy. With its dimensions of 120 x 80 cm, it is large enough to anchor a wall on its own, yet compact enough to work beautifully above a smaller piece of furniture, in a seating area, hallway, office or bedroom with character. Because of its vertical direction, the work naturally draws the eye upward, while the warm mass of colour instantly adds warmth to the room.

This painting stands out especially well against a calm, balanced wall. Namibian Sand gives the work softness and allows the warm red and orange tones to glow without becoming overwhelming. Those looking for more contrast and depth can introduce Cornwall Black into the room, for example through accents, an adjacent wall or furniture, so that the dark background of the painting is powerfully supported. Materials such as dark wood, linen, velvet, black steel or smoked glass work beautifully alongside it. Directed spotlights from above help the paint splashes and colour layers gain more depth. This is an artwork for interiors that show courage, but with control.

Scenario 1 – Warm and Expressive

Combine Abstract D228 with a wall in Namibian Sand and natural materials such as wood, linen and ceramics. This keeps the interior calm enough, while the painting becomes a strong focal point. The warm tones in the work then bring liveliness without restlessness.

    Scenario 2 – Dark and Gallery-Like

In an interior with Cornwall Black as an accent colour, this work gains extra intensity. The dark surroundings strengthen the depth of the painting and make the blue and red glow even more vividly. This scenario works well in a clean interior with sculptural lighting and a restrained furniture composition.

Scenario 3 – Colour as a Source of Energy

In a hallway, office or creative space, Abstract D228 can function as a source of energy. The build-up of warm colour and the central blue bring both movement and concentration. This makes it a strong piece for spaces where inspiration and presence are desired.
