Floetrol paint conditioner for water-based paint – 1 litre

      Product description

Floetrol is a paint conditioner for water-based and emulsion paints. It extends the paint’s open time, allowing you to work wet-on-wet for longer. The paint has more time to level evenly, helping to reduce visible brush marks, roller marks, lap marks and uneven shading. This additional working time can be particularly useful on larger surfaces, in warm conditions or when paint begins to set too quickly. Floetrol can be used with a brush, roller, conventional spray gun or airless paint sprayer. When spraying, it helps the paint flow more evenly, reduces the risk of paint build-up and drying around the nozzle and can limit excessive overspray. Floetrol is also suitable for decorative painting techniques that require extra time to distribute, blend or merge colours. Do not automatically use the maximum quantity. Begin with a lower dosage and assess the flow and application first. Always carry out a compatibility test before use.

      Directions and dosage

Prepare the surface according to the instructions supplied by the paint manufacturer. Mix Floetrol thoroughly into the paint and always test the mixture on a small area first. The label recommends the following mixing ratios: Brush or roller: add 7–15% Floetrol per litre of paint, approximately 70–150 ml.
Conventional or pressure-feed spray gun: add 5–10% Floetrol per litre of paint, depending on the required coating thickness.
Airless paint sprayer: add approximately 10% Floetrol per litre of paint.
Decorative painting techniques: add 20–25% Floetrol per litre of paint. The quantity required can vary according to the paint, application tool, temperature and desired finish. Use no more than necessary and always follow the instructions on the packaging and those supplied by the paint manufacturer.

      Practical painting advice from Decoration

Floetrol is particularly useful when paint begins to set too quickly during application. This can happen in warm rooms, in draughty conditions, on absorbent surfaces or when painting a large area where lap marks quickly become visible. Continue to work systematically: divide the surface into logical sections, maintain a wet edge and avoid repeatedly brushing or rolling paint that has already begun to set. Floetrol provides more working time, but it does not replace proper surface preparation or a suitable painting technique.

      FAQ

What does Floetrol do to paint?

Floetrol extends the open time of water-based paint. This keeps the paint workable for longer and gives it more time to level evenly.

Does Floetrol prevent all brush and roller marks?

Floetrol reduces the risk of marks, but the final result also depends on the surface, tools, temperature and painting technique.

Is Floetrol the same as thinning paint with water?

No. Water makes paint thinner, while Floetrol is designed to improve application and flow and extend the open time. Use it according to the recommended mixing ratio.

How much Floetrol should I add when using a brush or roller?

The label recommends adding 7–15% Floetrol per litre of paint. Start with the lowest dosage and add more only when necessary.

Can Floetrol be used in a paint sprayer?

Yes. The recommended dosage is 5–10% for a conventional or pressure-feed spray gun and approximately 10% for an airless paint sprayer.

Is Floetrol suitable for decorative painting techniques?

Yes. Its extended open time provides more opportunity to distribute, blend or merge the paint. The label recommends a dosage of 20–25% for decorative applications.

Can Floetrol be added to every type of paint?

No. Floetrol is intended for water-based and emulsion paints. Do not add it to alkyd paints or transparent water-based varnishes and lacquers. Always carry out a compatibility test first.

Does Floetrol extend the complete drying time?

Floetrol primarily extends the open working time. The final drying time may also change, depending on the paint, dosage, coating thickness, temperature and humidity.
