A luxurious dark blue bedroom

St. Helena Blue is the absolute centrepiece of this intimate and mysterious bedroom. From walls to ceiling, the space is enveloped in this deep midnight-blue shade, giving you the feeling of stepping into a starry night the moment you enter. This project was realised by Brenda Baart.

Behind the bed, a powerful statement wall draws all the attention. Finished in the Concrete Look technique, with a subtle blend of Mystery Grey and Snow White, the wall adds texture and depth to the space without disrupting the serene unity of colour. The contrast between the matte blue and the cool concrete is soft yet present — like moonlight glowing against a night sky. Various details throughout the room, such as the bed frame, the wall surrounding the freestanding bathtub and the table in the seating area, are finished in Cornwall Black.

All in one tone

The ceiling and curtains, finished in the same deep blue shade as the walls, enhance the dreamy atmosphere. The curtains, made with a wave pleat, create flowing lines and add an extra sense of comfort and enclosure. The colour has been deliberately carried through, allowing walls, fabrics and furniture to blend seamlessly together. This approach continues into the ensuite bathroom. Here, both the ceiling and walls are fully painted in St. Helena Blue, with the walls additionally finished with Decoration Paint’s Extra Matt Varnish. This ensures the colour remains strong and elegant, even in this humid space.

Colour harmony

An heirloom — an old wooden chair — was given a second life in this space. It too was fully painted in St. Helena Blue and finished with a layer of Silken Wax. This not only provides protection, but also gives the chair a subtle, silky sheen that contrasts beautifully with the matte walls.

This project shows how powerful the effect of colour harmony and bold choices can be. St. Helena Blue creates calm, depth and a sense of mystery — ideal for those who wish to end their day in a cocoon of silence and beauty. The addition of elements such as the heirloom piece and the concrete look wall adds character and timelessness.
