Martien Klaassen

After his retirement, Martien Klaassen decided to actively exhibit his sculptures. Encouraged by his wife, he visited Art Gallery Pot — a decisive step that introduced his work to a wider audience.

Martien works with deep respect for the natural stone he shapes. He listens to the qualities and characteristics of the material and allows them to guide the final form. His works can be created in marble, sandstone or soapstone.

Using techniques such as filing, grinding, chiselling and polishing, he brings organic forms to life. His signature lies in finding harmony between material and movement. The stone is never forced — it is revealed.
