KL013 is an elegant, flowing sculpture where rhythm and refinement meet. A fluid movement in natural stone that unites strength and softness in a single gesture.
KL013 – Martien Klaassen
Size: H 60 cm x W 25 cm
Material: Natural stone
With a height of 60 cm and a width of 25 cm, KL013 has a balanced, slender presence. The form rises in a gentle S-curve, as if the sculpture slowly unfolds from its base.
The stone reveals warm, mottled earthy tones with subtle variations of brown, ochre and deeper accents. Through intensive polishing, a silky sheen appears, allowing light to glide across the curves. Each angle captures light differently, giving the piece a constantly shifting character depending on the viewer’s perspective.
The torsion at the centre creates tension and movement, yet the overall silhouette remains harmonious. The lines are organic and natural — nothing feels rigid or imposed. It seems as though the stone itself suggested this motion.
KL013 is restrained yet expressive. A sculpture that radiates calm while quietly holding energy within.
Martien Klaassen
After his retirement, Martien Klaassen chose to actively exhibit his sculptures. Encouraged by his wife, he visited Art Gallery Pot — a meaningful step in bringing his work to a broader audience.
Martien works with deep respect for natural stone. He listens to the qualities and characteristics of the material, allowing them to guide the final form. His sculptures may be created in marble, sandstone or soapstone.
Using techniques such as filing, grinding, chiselling and polishing, he seeks the optimal balance between form and mass. His work is defined by organic lines and a pure relationship between movement and material.
KL013 deserves a placement where its line remains visible and uninterrupted.
Scenario 1 – On a low sideboard or console
At 60 cm high, this sculpture is ideal for placement on furniture with sufficient surrounding space. This ensures the S-curve remains visually readable.
Scenario 2 – In a calm, natural setting
Combine with wood, linen and soft earthy tones. The sculpture enhances an organic interior atmosphere.
Scenario 3 – In a contrasting modern interior
In a clean-lined space with darker accents, the warm stone softens the composition. The polished surface adds refinement without excess.
Lighting is crucial. A spotlight from above or slightly from the front emphasises the torsion and shadow lines. The curves reveal their full sculptural depth through light.
KL013 does not shout — it moves.
And within that movement lies its strength.
