KL005 is an elegant, interlocking form in Indian soapstone where softness and tension meet. A sculpture that combines the natural warmth of the material with a powerful, almost protective movement.
KL005 – Martien Klaassen
Material: Indian soapstone
Size: H 56 x W 24 cm
With a height of 56 cm and a width of 24 cm, KL005 has a slender yet expressive presence. Two flowing forms curve toward one another, as if protecting or embracing. The composition feels open, yet sheltered.
The Indian soapstone reveals warm tones of sand, terracotta and soft rose. Subtle variations and natural veins bring depth and liveliness to the surface. Through careful polishing, a silky sheen emerges, gently reflecting light. The surface appears smooth and inviting, while the solidity of the stone remains tangible.
What makes this sculpture remarkable is the dialogue between the two lines. They nearly touch, yet remain independent. The tension lies in the space between them. It is a work that expresses both strength and vulnerability.
KL005 feels like a moment of connection captured in stone.
Martien Klaassen
After his retirement, Martien Klaassen chose to actively exhibit his sculptures. Encouraged by his wife, he visited Art Gallery Pot, where his work became part of the gallery collection.
Martien works with deep respect for natural stone. He listens to the qualities of the material and allows the form hidden within the stone to emerge. His works may be crafted in marble, sandstone or soapstone, each material maintaining its own character.
Using techniques such as filing, grinding, chiselling and polishing, he searches for harmony between form, mass and movement. His sculptures are organic, pure and always faithful to the material.
This sculpture calls for warmth in its surroundings.
Scenario 1 – In a soft, natural interior
Combine with linen, wood and earthy tones. The warm shades of the soapstone enhance a serene atmosphere.
Scenario 2 – In a hotel chic setting
Place it on a dark pedestal or marble console. The warm stone contrasts beautifully with deeper tones and rich materials such as velvet or brass.
Scenario 3 – In a minimalist interior
Allow the sculpture to stand freely with sufficient space around it. The open form will then have maximum impact.
Use a soft directional light from above or slightly from the front. The curves and subtle colour nuances will fully reveal themselves.
KL005 is not a massive statement.
It is a gesture of connection in stone.
