Decoration is a family business with over 100 years of history. Jozef Baart founded the company in 1922. Today, both the third and fourth generations are active in the company. From the very beginning, the development of our own paint has been a central focus. Over the years, this paint has been further refined and developed into a high-quality paint, incorporating over 100 years of knowledge, experience, and attention to detail.
The Development of Decoration Paint
In Clinge, Josephus Gerardus Baart – better known as Jozef – started his paint shop and drugstore. He opened his business on April 27, 1922, the day after his marriage to Philomena Herdewel. "Grandpa Baart" was a painter by trade and, in the early years, developed his own lime paint. This breathable paint was durable, practical, and popular with farmers because walls could be easily whitewashed without flaking. The foundation for Decoration Paint was laid here.
In 1958, son Ferdi Baart took over the company. During this period, lime paint was overtaken in terms of quality by turpentine-based paints. Decoration consciously switched to this and worked with renowned brands like Sikkens and Flexa for many years. The range was further expanded to include wallpaper, carpets, and curtains. Interior design was increasingly seen as a whole.
In 1997, the baton was passed on to Brenda Baart. Family blood runs deep: the desire to develop a new, better paint never wavers. Grandpa's old recipe served as the starting point, but with a clear ambition: no more chalk paint, but a high-quality, water-based paint suitable for modern use. Years of research and testing followed. In collaboration with laboratories and paint manufacturers, the perfect composition was sought. It was found: a matte, durable, stain- and scratch-resistant paint that ages beautifully and works beautifully.
After the paint comes the colors. Color studies are conducted, artists collaborated, and inspiration is drawn from around the world. A conscious decision is made not to create an endless collection. Too much choice leads to waste, and that doesn't suit Decoration. This creates a palette of 27 colors. Each color has its own story and character, but together they form a single family. The colors communicate with each other and are designed to be combined without distraction.
Decoration Paint was developed with accessibility in mind. That's why we deliberately chose a fixed, accessible price of €24.95 per liter. This makes high-quality paint accessible to everyone who wants to decorate their interior with care. Our goal is simple: for people to enhance their surroundings with our paint – in their own way, with peace and joy.
